Biography

Thomas Hurlburt was born in Wethersfield, Connecticut, 28 Jan 1681. He was the son of Stephen Hurlburt and Phoebe Dickinson.^[1][2]

On 11 Jan 1705, Thomas married Rebecca Meekins, daughter of John Meekins and Mary Bidwell.^[3][4][5] He was a farmer, and settled in his native town of Wethersfield.^[6] Thomas and Rebecca had at least nine children, all born at Wethersfield:^[2]

1. Stephen Hurlburt (1706-1767), possibly d. unmarried.^[7]
2. Hannah (Hurlburt) Dickinson (1708-1786) who married Thomas Dickinson^[8]
3. John Hurlburt (1711-1778) who married Mary Anna Cowles and had at least six children^[9]
4. Rebecca (Hurlburt) Crane (1713-1794) who married Abraham Crane and had at least five children^[10]
5. Thomas Hurlburt (1715-1791) who married Abigail Belden and had at least four children^[4][11][12]
6. Amos Hurlburt (1717-1777) who married first Hannah Wight, second Sarah Hills, and third Sarah Latimer. He had at least seven children.^[13]
7. Elijah Hurlburt (1719-1803) who married Elizabeth Belden ^[14]
8. Elizabeth (1721 - ) believed to have died before her father
9. Timothy Hurlburt (1723-1773) who married Sarah Clark and had six children^[4][15]

Rebecca passed away at Wethersfield on 22 Mar 1760 and was buried at the Wethersfield Village Cemetery.^[16] Thomas was buried alongside her after his death a year later on 10 Apr 1761.^[17] His will was dated November 19, 1755, proved in Court on 25 April 1761 and inventory presented on 14 June 1762. (Estate £781.) His son John of Hartford was executor.^[2]
