Benjamin enlisted in the CSA on June 4, 1861, serving with Company B of the 38th Virginia Infantry. His rank fluctuated from Lieutenant to Sergeant, then back to Lieutenant as his service was not continuous.

Whereabouts of Benjamin immediately after the war not discovered. In 1880 in Pittsylvania, single mother Ellen Rigney is shown with 8 children in the home. One of which is Robert M. Rigney. Robert is noted as Benjamin's son in a Familysearch profile. Ellen Rigney is likely a daughter of Owen Rigney, as she lived next door to Owen in 1870, and Eleanor Rigney of same age was in Owen's home in 1860.

Three years prior to his death, Benjamin was living with wife Alice(1860 Arkansas), and son Fletcher(1892 Arkansas).

Benjamin was born in 1838. He was the son of George Clement and Sarah "Sallie" Turner He passed away in 1913.
