Biography
Elizabeth was born in 1847 inCavan Twp., Durham Co. just 14 miles south of Peterborough, Ont. and grew up on a 300 acre farm there. On a trip to visit her sister in Elderslie Twp. in 1871 she met and then married her cousin James. She was the daughter of John Shaw and Mary Thorn.
She moved into Owen Sound in 1909 so the children could attend the Collegiate Institute. Her husband died in 1929 and she lived in the family home with her daughter Kathleen until her death at age 99 in 1946.
She made her own cake for her 93rd birthday and her 99th.
She died in 1946 from a heart attack and is buried in the Greenwood Cemetery, Owen Sound .
