Lena was born on August 3, 1883 to Andrew "Hamp" Carter and Emma (Edwards) Carter. Andrew's identity has not yet been confirmed. He is thought to have died in or around 1899 to 1900. He is not listed on Lena's birth or death certificate, but he is listed on her sister Laura's death certificate as Andrew Carter[1] Lena's family Bible lists him as "Hamp" Carter with no birth dates, parents, or other identifying information.
1900 Federal Census record show Lena (age 16) living with her mother Emma, sister Laura and husband John. [2]
Lena married Joseph Blount Stover on July 20, 1901, in Cheatham County, TN. [3]
