Biography

Alfred was born about 1868. ^[1] Alfred was the child of George Wain and Elizabeth Townson. Alfred passed away about 1930^[2]. He had 9 children with Alice Ann Rose.^[3]

2 children died in infancy, Elsie Victoria born 1898 and died aged 10 mths, and Walter Eddy born 1900 died aged 2 months.

Besides the girls there were 5 sons:

• Alfred Herbert George born Ballarat East 1894 reg 8812. Born 7th March 1894, enlisted AIF 1918 but deemed not fot for service. Father NOK at 549 Station St Previously served 4 years Area 60 Nth Carlton. 5'6" "driver". Married Florence Ivy Sharkey 1930 Vic reg 3053. Alfred died21st May 1974 Ashes Scattered Fawkner Memorial Park. His name at GMCT and on Death Reg is incorrectly recorded as Alfred Thomas Wain. His death reg is 11559/1974 at Greenvale aged 80. Saus born Carlton, also incorrect. Parents are correct. Florence Ivy Wain died at Ringwood 1956 reg 17299 aged 58. Paremts are Patrick John Sharkey amd Mima Braumann. Born Fitzroy (RYERSON INDEX: died 5 Feb 1956 at Warrandyte.)

• Ernest William born Carlton 1895 reg 19209. Enlisted AIF 7/8/1916 aged 21 , born 13th Aug 1895. Doctors assistant. NOk His mother 549 Station St Nth Carlton. Had previously been in citizen forces 3 years. 5'7" . Discharged 11/5/1917. Married Thelma Braemer 1937 reg 1729.

• Reginald Albert born Carlton 1901 reg 17561. Married Janet May Bishop 1928 Vic reg 3794. He died Fitzroy 1968 at Fitzroy reg 3371 aged 67.

• Stanley Francis born Carlton 1904 reg 24142. Enlisted WW2. Born 27th Jan 1904. Nok is May Wain 2 Bent St Moonee Ponds. Married May Dorothy Foster 1932 vic reg 10492.

• Leslie Norman born Carlton 1907 reg 1426. Enlisted WW2 AIF 5'5" Dark hair. papers give DOB as 29th Nov 1903. He is a cabinet maker , single. Nok his mother 6 Walker St Coburg. Died 28th January 1976. Buried Fawkner Methodist E Grave 2660 with his mother Alice Wain who died about 18th December 1951.

“WAIN. — On December 14 (sud denly). at Royal Melbourne Hospital, Alice Ann Wain, of 6 Walker-street. Coburg, beloved wife of the late Alfred Thomas Wain, and loved mother of May. Gertrude, Alfred, Ernest, Reginald. Stanley and Leslie. At rest.”^[4]

He is buried in Melbourne General Cemetery.^[5]

1915 details are the same with the exception Alice May Wain is not here.

1919 Alfred Thomas is a railway employee and living 549 Station St Nth Carlton. Also here is Alice Ann Home duties, Alfred Herbert George a driver, Ernest William a doctors assistant and Gertrude Matilda a packer.

1924 Alfred Thomas, Alice Ann, Alfred Herbert George, Ernest William and Reginald Albert are still at 549 Station St.
