Derby. After her husband died on 8 Jun 1848, Laura Maria Petre entered the Society of Notre Dame de Namur as a widow in 1850, and in 1875 became Superior of the convent at Namur. Sir George successfully petitioned the House of Lords and was recognized as 8th Baron Stafford on 17 June 1824, which also was recognized to have reversed the attainter of 1680. He took the name of Stafford before that of Jerningham by Royal Warrant 1826.

He was widowed on 4 Nov 1832 when his wife, Frances Henrietta Xaveria Sulyarde Stafford-Jerningham passed away at Brighton, Sussex, England, United Kingdom. [18]
Second Marriage
In 1836 Lord George William Stafford-Jerningham married Elizabeth Caton an American heiress who was born in 1790 at Annapolis, Maryland, United States. They were married at the British Embassy, St. Roche, Paris, on 26 May 1836. [19] They had no children.
Elizabeth and her sisters were known in European and English society as 'the three American Graces'.
Death
Lord George William Stafford-Jerningham, 8th Baron Stafford, 7th baronet, passed away on 4 Oct 1851 at the Family Seat of Costessey Park, Norfolk, England United Kingdom. [20] Originally buried in the private chapel at the family estate, Costessey Park. His remains and those of other family where disinterred and reinterred in the Our Lady & St. Walstan Churchyard on November 18, 1953.
