Jacob Heckman was born on August 16, 1771 in Tulpehocken Township, Berks, Province of Pennsylvania, son of Johann Jacob Heckman (1749–1789) and Anna Barbara Meyer (1745–1818).
"Jacob Heckman, who was born in Pennsylvania in 1771, emigated from Virginia to Ohio in the winter of 1811. He settled where his son, Isaac Heckman, now lives, and died there in 1854. Mary Heckman, his wife, died some fifteen years before. They were the parents of six children: Anna [Hannah], Helen, David, Catherine, Isaac, and Barbara. Anna [Hannah] was the wife of Abraham Wimmer; Catherine is now the widow of Joseph C. Harter, and resides in Indiana; Barbara became the wife of John Werkley; Isaac, who has ever since occupied the old farm where his father settled in 1811, was born January 9, 1803.
