Calaway Pardon Jolly was born September 24, 1852 in Lauderdale County, Mississippi to Bradly and Marian Cynthia (Miller) Jolly.
The 1870 U.S. Census shows Calaway at age 15 living with his older sister Melissa and their mother in Beat 4, Township 5, Lauderdale County, Mississippi. [1]
Calaway and Lula had one child together, Rufus Bradley Jolley, born April 18, 1888 in Mississippi.
Calaway later married Jannie Pennington and together gave birth to three more children:
Oliver Estell Jolly (1901-1965)
Isaac Calaway Jolly (1902-1986)
Ila Mae Jolly (1905-1913)
The 1900 U.S. Census lists Calaway at the age of 47 with his wife Jane at 26 living on a rented farm in Neshoba County, Mississippi. Calaway's 12 year old son Rufus was found to be living on a neighboring farm as a boarder.[3]
Jannie died in October of 1909 and was not listed with Caloway and the children for the 1910 U.S. Census for Beat 1, Neshoba County, Mississippi.[4]
The 1920 Census showed Calaway as a 67 year old widower living in the home of his son Rufus with Rufus' wife Lavada and their two young children, Lomas and Mavis, living on the family farm in Neshoba County. Living with them are Calaway's two sons from his second marriage, Oliver and Isaac. And on a neighboring farm are Calaway's sister Sarah living with her son James M. Jolly, his wife Claudia, and their three children.[5]
