Elizabeth "Eliza" Ann Jolly was born sometime in February of 1920 in Walton County, Georgia, the second child of Bradly and Elizabeth Eades Jolly.
On October 20, 1841, Eliza married John "Jack" Fairchild in Lauderdale County, Mississippi. [1]
In the 1850 U.S. Census, Eliza is living with her husband John and their five children on a farm in Beat 3 of Clarke County, Mississippi. Three of the children, Nancy, Robert, and William attended school, while the other two, Martha and Melissa were still too young. There were also two young men in their mid-twenties, Marshal Dolly and Stephen Smith staying with them.[2]
By the time of the 1860 U.S. Census, Eliza and Jack now had three more children, Lofton, James, and two year old Jack living on the farm in Beat 5 near Whynot, Mississippi in Lauderdale County. Four of the older children were also still living at home.[3]
The 1880 U.S. Census showed Jack and Eliza Living in Beat 4 of Clarke County, Mississippi. With them are 12 adults and children identified only by their initials and gender. All are listed as either sons or daughters of the couple but I believe some of the younger ones may be grandchildren.[4]
Jack Fairchild died April 8, 1897. Eliza passed away on May 23, 1904 and was buried beside Jack in the Fairchild Cemetery, Sable, Clarke County, Mississippi.[5]
