Sheridan Downey was born on March 11, 1884 in Laramie, Wyoming, USA. His parents were Stephen Downey and Evangeline Owen. He was one of 10 children. His father, Stephen Wheeler Downey, served as a colonel in the Civil War and was one of the first delegates from the Territory of Wyoming to be sent to Congress.
He married Helen Symons on November 14, 1910 . Together they had 5 children: Margaret (Downey) Dinsmore, Sheridan Downey, # Helen (Downey) Wilcox, Richard Downey and Patricia June (Downey) Brogdan.
Sen. Downey studied at the University of Wyoming and received a law degree in 1907 from the University of Michigan Law School. A year after starting a law practice in Laramie, he was elected district attorney of Albany County on a reform ticket. He later moved to Sacramento, California, where he set up a law practice with a brother, S.W. Downey. His political career is well documented and available in the public domain.
He died on October 25, 1961 in San Francisco, California, USA.
His body donated to medical science.[1]
