Alma E. Chase was the daughter of Emmeline A. NEVERS and Charles A. CHASE, a farmer and mill owner in New Brunswick.
She married Cline Bourinot in December 1893 in Lowell, Massachusetts and they had a daughter (Laura) born there in 1894.
When she was a young woman, Alma (and a sister) worked as a dress maker. Later, she acquired training as a nurse. That was her occupation in 1910, when she was enumerated as a widow, living in her mother's home with daughter, Laura Bourinot, in Portland, ME.
She may have returned to New Brunswick to live for a time.[1] In 1924, she returned to the United States, traveling from Saint-John, by rail to Vanceboro, Maine, and made her way back to Massachusetts. In the 1930 census, Alma is a staff nurse at Essex County Sanatorium in Middleton, MA.
In 1934, she resided with her daughter and son-in-law in Lowell, and filed a petition to become a naturalized citizen of the USA. The 1940 census finds Alma stayed with her daughter, son-in-law Joseph Keirstead, and, no doubt, enjoying her two grandsons.
