Biography

Birth and Baptism

Jonathan was born to Jonathan and Beulah Stearns in Milford on 10 Jan 1759. [1]

Jonathan was baptized on June 3, 1759 in Milford,[2] That may have occurred later than usual because he was born after his father's death

Marriage

Jonathan Stearns married Hannah Thayer May 1, 1783 in Milford.[3][4]

Marriage #2 ?

A Jonathan Stearns Jr. is recorded as having married the 21-year-old Meriam Gashet in Hopkinton on Dec. 3, 1801[5] Meriam died just three months later on March 1, 1802 of "lung fever."[6] But there is no record of (first wife) Hannah outlived this Jonathan, and the 1803 birth record for son Alanson gives his parents as Jonathan and Hannah. It seems likely that this Jonathan Stearns Jr. is a different Jonathan. Further research needed.

Military Service

Jonathan was a Soldier of the Revolution. He served as a private, 1778; was captured, but made his escape.[7]
