LINTON.
DEATH OF AN OLD COLONIST.
A very old resident of Happy Valley, Mrs Ann Thomas, relict of the late John Thomas, passed away on Monday last. The deceased was a colonist of 50 years, having arrived in the ship Hotspur, in 1854, and had resided in this district since 1861. She leaves a grown-up family of five sons and three daughters to mourn their loss. The funeral, which was largely attended, took place on Thursday afternoon, the place of interment being the Linton General Cemetery. The coffin-bearers were Messrs John Bolte, Wm Bolte, J. Crozier, J. Thomas, and J. H. Brough. The pall-bearers were Messrs J. Jones. J. Garvey, J. Murphy, J. Collins. A. C. Hall, and J. Gribble. The Rev. J. O. A. Clarke conducted the burial service, and the mortuary arrangements were satisfactorily carried out by Mr Jas. Nelson. ^[6]
