Biography

Per his g-grandson Festus Davis he moved by wagon from the Langley community located in then Edgefield Co, SC to Tallapoosa Co, Alabama.

In the 1850 U. S. Census (November 4, 1850) John Manning was living with his wife and family in Township 22 of Tallapoosa County, Alabama, United States. John Manning was listed as Manny Langley. He was forty-five years old and a farmer with real estate valued at $800. There were eight children in the household ranging in age from twenty- on to three-years old.[1]

In the 1860 U. S. Census (July 24, 1860) the family was listed in Beat 13, Dudleyville, Tallapoosa County, Alabama. Manning was fifty-five and still farming. His real estate was valued at $3000 and his personal estate as $4400. There were six children in the household including two who were born after the 1850 U. S. Census.[2]

John Manning Langley died on June 28, 1864 at the age of fifty-nine. He was buried at the Langley Cemetery in Camp Hill, Tallapoosa County, Alabama, United States.[3]
