In 1860, John was given as Jno H Rhodes. He was aged 46, married, and was living in Washington Township, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania with his wife Hanah (aged 40), and their children Lidy (20), Henry (16), Charles (14), Wilbur (12), Mary (9), James M (7), Ben C (6), Ann (4), and Alice Rhodes (1). The post office was in Harlansburg [1]
In 1870, he was aged 56, married, and living in Scott Township, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania with his wife Hannah (aged 50), and their children William F (21), Mary L (19), James M (16), Benjamin C (15), Anna M (12), Alice E (11), and Elmer E Rhodes (8). All family members were born in Pennsylvania.[2]
By 1880, John was aged 67, widowed, and living in the household of his son James M Rhodes in Scott Township with James's wife Emma and their one-year-old son J H Rhodes (also John Hull Rhodes). In the census, the elder John noted that he was a retired farmer. James' younger brother Elmer, aged 19, also lived in the same household and was a laborer.[3]
John passed away on 8 Jun 1882 in Eastbrook, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania at age 68. He was buried in Briar Hill Cemetery in Sunset Valley, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania.[4]
