I'm a retired mining engineer in Duncan, AZ. My father Thomas Lee Waddell was the youngest of 11 children, born in Sheridan, WY. He joined the navy at 17 and retired 22 years later. His father John Jackson was a meat hunter selling to the BLM railroad until he was 17, when he went to work for the railroad directly. When he retired he was the oldest employee they had at the time, My husbands family are all of German decent, and I got started in genealogy because there were many family stories, but very little public record of their existence at the time. Over the years much information has been put on line from Keokuk, Lee county, Iowa, and I've made progress filling in the record. There was quite a bit of intermarriage in the German community at that time so it's taken quite a bit of work to get it straightened out. Working in Ancestry it's hard to spot double entries, and I'm currently trying to double check my information on the Raber family. There is also a mystery about my mother in law's ancestors, who I've only been able to trace because of vague comments within the family; for some reason her family is very elusive with little public record. I was finally able to track down a cousin my husband recalled as a little kid between Ancestry and Facebook.

It looks like your husband and I are fifth cousins! This is via Johann Wilhelm Müller (1815 - 1862) and his wife Katharina Elisabeth Biebighäuser (1820 - 1886), both of whom I have recently connected to their ancestors. I grew up just a few miles from Dodenau (the village where they came from).
Best wishes from Germany!
Daniel
