In 1910, 15-year-old Greene lived in McCaysville, Georgia, where he, his father, and his brother Bascom worked at the copper mines in adjacent Copperhill, Tennessee. [3]

Greene registered for the WW I draft on June 5, 1917 at Union County, Georgia.
[2]
He enlisted in the Army on June 30, 1917[4], or July 25, 1917[5] at Etowah, Tennessee.

[6][7]
He was wounded in action on September 30, 1918,
[4][8][9]
on which date his unit was engaged in the decisive Battle of St. Quentin Canal.
The war ended less than two months later. He was discharged from the army on April 11, 1919. [5][10]
He was sometimes called "Colonel", apparently an honorary title. [1]
He went to college at Mercer (Macon, Georgia) in 1922/1923 and was an attorney. He was admitted to the Georgia bar on June 6, 1923. He practiced law in Gilmer, Fannin and Union counties.

[14] In February 1944, he is the attorney for a group opposing the current town officers. That group included Greene's brothers J. Thurman Jones and Bascom L. Jones.
[15]
In 1947, Greene ran unsuccessfully for Mayor of Blairsville, losing to Ben F. Carr.

[13]

Greene Jones died on Valentine's Day, 1970, in Towns County, Georgia. [20]

Research Notes
Name: His WW I draft registration gives his name as Green Atcuson Jones (without the 'e'), but his own signature on the card adds an 'e', giving Greene Atcuson Jones. His page at the Georgia Bar site shows Greene Atcus Jones. His VA records give his name as Greene Actus (sic) Jones. [5] His Social Security Application of 1950 gives his name as "Greene Atcus Jones". [17] Apparently he preferred "Atcus" to "Atcuson" for his middle name.
Place Name:"Copper's Creek" in the 1900 census is probably a misnomer for "Cooper's Creek", in his parent's 1880 census. In 2018, there is no town by those names, but there are Cooper's Creek Wildlife Management Area, Cooper's Creek Store and Cooper's Creek Rd, in the middle of the Chattahoochee National Forest, about 11 miles north of Suches, GA. All of which are in Union County, GA.
