Judith Briggs may have been born about 1725 (see Research Notes), likely in Taunton, Massachusetts where her parents Nathiel Briggs and Judith Guild are recorded.
Judith married (1) Joseph Tower on 9 Apr 1743 at Attleboro, Bristol Co., Massachusetts.[1][2] After the death of her husband Joseph Tower in 1761, Judith appears to have married (2) Nathaniel Finney (1720-1809) who was interestingly the father of Anne Finney (Phinney), wife of Judith's son Benjamin.
Judith must have died after 1773 when she was mentioned in her father's will as Judith Finney.[3]
Research Notes
The previously used birthdate of 20 May 1775 actually belonged to a different Judith Briggs born in Scituate, daughter of Joseph Briggs and Judith Litchfield.[4][5]
The 1762 death in Falmouth may be a different woman. Judith Briggs who died in Falmouth NS may be the wife of Thomas Woodworth and married him in 1755. Judith Briggs of Sackville may have died in 1790. [6]
" I suspect that Nathaniel Finney that married Thankful Tupper was a different person. I also wonder if the date and location of death that many attribute to him in Maine isn’t correct (I have no proof but I’m looking) Judith Briggs is mentioned in her fathers will which I believe was 1773 which implies Judith (Briggs) was alive at that time. He refers to her as Judith Finney in his will. It’s unlikely that Nathaniel would have married two women at once (possible but not likely)"[7]
