Biography
When Russell Cole was born in 1778 in Shaftsbury, Vermont, his father, Freegift, was 36 and his mother, Mary, was 28. He married Mary Brayton in February 1799. They had six children, Mary (1800-1864, Zina (1804-1889), Sidney (1806-1829), Thomas B (1812-1868), Russell (1813-1833) & Jane (?-?) in 13 years. He died on November 13, 1813, in Kingsbury, New York, at the age of 35, and was buried in Hudson Falls, New York at Moss Street Cemetery.

Three of Freegift's sons served in the Militia during the Revolutionary war. At least one of those sons, Capt. Russell Cole died in 1813 and could have also been in the war of 1812.
The other brother's of Russell that probably served if not died in the war were Parker (1780-1808) and Casey (1786-1813).
