1776 Project
Private Christian Shively III served with Pennsylvania Militia during the American Revolution.

Christian Shively III is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A104038.

Christian Shively was born in York Township, York County, Pennsylvania. Moved to Buffalo Valley, then moved to Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, which part later became Union County, Pennsylvania. He died in Union County, PA.

According to Mennonite vital records, his mother is Barbara Spitteler, not Esther Naeff. According to Family Data Collection-Births, his mother is Esther Naff, and he was born in Warwick, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

His children were all born in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, (now Union County, Pennsylvania).

He was a veteran of the Revolutionary War w/the rank of Private. He served from 1778-1783. Was a Ranger on the Frontier. [1]

1800 lived in West Buffalo Township, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, with wife, Sophia; 1 son aged 10-15, George; 3 sons aged 16-25, Daniel, Christian IV, Samuel; 1 son aged 26-44, John?; 1 daughter aged 10-15, Sophia; 1 daughter aged 26-44, Barbara, (total of 7 children).

July 28, 1807 bought land in section 35, township 17, range 5, in Columbiana County, Ohio, on payments, from David Smith (who married Barbara Shively, his sister). He made a deal with son, Daniel III, and daughter, Susanna Shively, wife of Michael Bartges, of Mifflinburg, Union County, Ohio, that they would have no future in his estate, and he would deed 308.56 acres to Michael Bartges, (East half of Section 35, township 17, range 5), Citation in note 1 below) and he would deed 310.48 acres which was the West half of Section 35, township 17, range 5 to son, Daniel Shively III. (citation in note 2 below).
