Research Notes
Research on this family's profiles is ongoing - LNAB is subject to possible future change as a result. Currently the most reliable information regarding the appropriate spelling now of the family name they used derives from the will of John's brother James - in which four different spellings of the LNAB are found: Polden, Powlton, Polten, Polton - as well as the Poulton spelling of John's own original record. Subsequent records found in Family Search and other sites indicate how, as spelling became more institutionalized through generations, it coalesced into several forms extant more recently, including Polden and Poulton still in use today.
Once further research brings more clarity to the LNAB used by John and James's ancestors, it will be possible to assign a single Wikitree LNAB to the brothers and their father also. The present compromise name enables them both to be found in searches, while still maintaining the integrity of the names cited in their "original" records. Appreciation to Wikitree genealogist Paula Reinke for her help in this regard.
