James Miller was born on November 7, 1877, in Errol, Perthshire, Scotland, United Kingdom. He was the son of James Miller (1857–1936), a farmer, and Jane Benvie (1850–1896). [1] [2] [3]
In 1881, according to the Scotland census, James was 3 years old and living with his parents and 1 year old sister Elizabeth Ann at Cottages in Abernyte, Perthshire. [4]
James married Elizabeth Mills in 1901. James was a bonded warehouseman, a bachelor and 23 years old. He lived at 23 St Andrews Street in Dundee. His father was James Miller, a shepherd, and his mother was Jane Benvie (deceased). Elizabeth was a packer in a bonded warehouse, a spinster and 23 years old. She lived at 23 St Andrews Street in Dundee as well. Her father was Joseph William Mills, a hairdresser's assistant. Her mother was Elizabeth Stewart Douglas Stalker (deceased). They were married on October 11, 1901, by H. H. Davidson from the St Andrews Parish Church at 13 Springhill in Dundee after the publication according to the terms of the Established Church of Scotland. Witnesses were Leslie Stuart and Florence Mills. Their marriage was registered on October 15, 1901, at Dundee by Jas Murray. [2] Together they had 4 children:
In 1907 he immigrated with his wife and young son James to Canada. [5] They settled in Alberta.
In 1911, according to the Canada census, James was 31 years old and living with his wife and 2 children at the home of Eddie Swingewood (age 49 from England) in Medicine Hat, Cypress, Alberta. James was working as a labourer on the farm. [6]
During the 1916 Canada Prairie Provinces census James was 37 years old and living with his wife and four children at their home in Calgary East, in Alberta, Canada. [7] He worked as a warehouseman for the Alberta Liquor control board. [1]
In about 1958 he moved with his wife to Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. [1]
James Miller died from heart failure on February 6, 1961, at his home on McKay Avenue in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada at the age of 85 years. He was laid to rest at Ocean View Burial Park in Burnaby on February 9. [1]

James dob was noted as 27 Nov 1876 at the time of his death, however his early census records and birth registration point to a late 1877 birth (1878 during 1881 and 1891 census)
