Biography

Priscilla Jane McCray was born on August 4, 1831 to Nancy Anderson Briant & William McCray in Monroe County, Tennessee.

About 1839, her family moved to Ludlow, in Livingston County, Missouri.

In 1848, her family had moved to Spickard, in Grundy County, Missouri.

Priscilla Jane McCray's mother, Nancy Anderson Briant, died March 26, 1848 in Spickard, Grundy County, Missouri. She is buried in Johnson Cemetery, in Franklin, Grundy County, Missouri. Priscilla Jane McCray was 16 years old at the time of her mother's death.

Her father, William McCray, died one year later on March 13, 1849. He is also buried in Johnson Cemetery.

In April, 1850 Census, Priscilla Jane McCray was living with William L. Johnson, with her sisters Caroline Penelopy McCray, Mary Louisa McCray & Rachel E. McCray. Mr. Johnson was related to them through their grandmother, Abigail Anderson. Enumerated in the household were:

Eight months pregnant, Priscilla Jane McCray drove the horses & wagon with her sons Preston Myers Bosley (age 8), William McCray Bosley (age 5) & Franklin P. Bosley (age 2).

On November 12, 1868, Priscilla Jane McCray married Levi Burkeybile in Grundy County, Missouri. Levi Burkeybile was the village blacksmith in Spickard, Missouri. His 1st wife, Sarah Shontz Zimmerman had died 15 months prior, leaving him with 3 sons. He was a kind and loving step-father to the Bosley children.

In July, 1870, Priscilla Jane McCray & Levi Burkeybile were living in Washington, Mercer County, Missouri. His real estate was valued at $2,500.00 ($44,994.78); personal estate was valued at $1,000.00 ($17,997.91). Enumerated in the household were:

Priscilla Jane McCray would lived her remaining 11 years on the farm she shared with her husband, living with daughter Mary Flonia Burkeybile, who suffered from epilepsy. Mary Flonia Burkeybile would die at age 38 on February 24, 1913 in Spickard, in Grundy County. Missouri.

Priscilla Jane McCray died March 15, 1915, in Ravanna, in Mercer County. Missouri. She died of influenza, complicated with senility. She was 83 years old.

Priscilla Jane McCray was buried near Levi Burkeybile in Wyatt Cemetery located at Franklin, in Grundy County, Missouri.
