In the below mentioned article, This young man made the active "choice" to take his brothers place in the war, and he was only 16yrs old at the time. His brother did later volunteer, after I'm assuming his wife got well, but its still amazing that this ancestor made that possible by sacrificing himself for someone he loved. Later, after the war, when his father in law died, again, this ancestor picked up and sold his property and moved near his wife's mother, I can only imagine to help her out and make sure she was ok with children still under age and she had lost her husband.

From Let the Drums Roll by Maurice Lightfoot Page 139 James Mitchell was born Dec. 20, 1765 in Orange Co., N. Note

  • A lot of immigrants from Scotland were PRESBYTERIAN, out of the Church of Scotland. Catholicism was big in England and non Catholics were persecuted, so they brought their religion with them to the new World. This family line from what I've gathered from family members were mostly PRESBYTERIAN, with several Reverends throughout the generations. The Reason that Edgar Mitchell and his siblings were catholic is the fact that they spent time in a catholic orphanage.
