William married Matilda (Myrtilla, Mystilla)____ (b abt 1812 NY). Marriage records, as noted below in research notes, show marriage to Myrtilla Ripley in Southampton, Massachusetts on 7 Sep 1832.[1][2] Children (from 1860 census):
Sylvanus Tryon b abt 1834 NY
Almena Tryon b abt 1840 NY
Leonard C Tryon b abt 1846 NY
William is almost certainly the William Tryon who died in Granville, Massachusetts on 20 Sep 1850, occupation cooper, listed as son of William Tryon.[3] The William Tryon listed in the 1850 census (enumerated 2 Aug 1850) had occupation listed as cooper. The index of the death record shows that his marital status was "unknown", however it was simply not recorded on the original document. His Find a Grave memorial says he died in Westfield but is buried in Granville. His cause of death was dysentery.
Research Notes
A "Mastilla" Tryon b 1816 d 1852 is buried in the same graveyard. Could she be the Matilda in the 1850 census? She also died in Westfield but was buried in Granville.[4]
A number of children who belong to this couple died young and are buried in the same graveyard. One is Ellen Roxana, d. William, farmer, and Myrtilla, b. Aug. 10, 1845.
Another is "Child Mr Tryon (died) Sep 27 1838, age 3."
There is a record of Myrtilla Tryon, born about 1812, a widow, death and burial in Westfield, Hampden, MA on 21 Aug 1852, but she is commemorated on Find a grave under the name Mastilla (see above).
