The 1860 U.S. Federal Census records John Dysart, age 55 born in TN, as a farmer living in Marshall Co., Tennessee. In his household are Rachael age 55 born in TN, Jane age 30 born in TN and doing domestic work, John H. age 25 born in TN and a student, Wm. H. age 19 born in TN and his father’s ast., Emily A. age 17 born in TN and doing domestic work, Margaret age 11 born in TN, Marshall D. age 8 born in TN, and Thomas Croan age 9 born in TN.[2]

The 1880 U.S. Federal Census records Sam W. Preslar age 48 as an undertaker living in District 6, Marshall Co., Tennessee. In his household are his wife Emily A. age 36 born in TN, daughter Lou N. age 21 born in TN, son Samuel E. age 17 born in TN, son Lee W. age 7 born in TN, daughter Mattie A. age 6 born in TN, and daughter Flora B. age 4 born in TN.[5]

The 1900 U.S. Federal Census records S.W. Preslar age 68, born June 1831 born in NC, as an undertaker living in Marshall Co., Tennessee. In his household are his wife Emily 52 born December 1847 in TN, son Lee age 27 born August 1872 in TN working as an undertaker, and daughter Flora age 20 born July 1879 in TN. Emily is recorded to have had 7 children with 3 still living.[6]
