Taggart was elected as a Federalist to the Eighth and to the six succeeding Congresses, serving as a United States Representative for the sixth district of the state of Massachusetts (March 4, 1803 – March 3, 1817).
Elizabeth died in 1815. In 1816 he married Mary Ayres. [6]
