Biography

Mary Polly Craige (known as Mary Craig of Hawfields) was born 09 March 1771 in New Hope, Orange County, North Carolina to David Craige (1733-1785) and Eleanor Johnston (1744-1831). In 1770 they are noted to be living in Hawfield, Orange County, North Carolina. There are some up coming posts regarding this and other lineages relating to this family.(Please be patient) She marries James Andrew Mitchell (1765-1843) on 24 Oct 1789 in Orange County, North Carolina. They help start the New Hope church, her grave is noted in a book called "The History of Hunter Meetinghouse and it's Cemetery Records Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee"; compiled by McKennon & Hendrix 1983; this grave is in Section 2, pg 20. The family later moved to Maury County, Tenn in 1809 and there had the last four of her children. She died 07 Nov 1844 in Mount Pleasant, Maury County, Tenn where she is above mentioned to be buried in the Hunter Cemetery.

Research Notes

Removed incorrect NSSAR Patriot Ancestor stickers - her husband was the patriot, not her (and neither had a valid sar number).

The Template:1776 template is for the soldier or patriot, not the spouse or children. I put the DAR source in the sources section.

Craig-761 and Craige-61 appear to represent the same person because: The spelling of the last names is typical exact birth and death dates as well as locations is sufficient.
