The Matcham Estate was a grant of 2,560 acres to Charles Horatio Nelson Matcham, a nephew of Lord Horatio Nelson Charles was born in 1806. He is the son of George Matcham and Kitty Nelson. [1]
It would seem that Charles had a daughter to a Jemima when he was only 17. I wonder if he and Jemima were both under age and their parents disapproved and so went somewhere where they were able to get married without consent. If Emily the daughter was base born she would have been given Jemima's surname not her father's.
Charles Horatio Nelson Matcham left England in 1828 as a cabin passenger aboard the SURRY and arrived in Sydney 22 Jan 1829 as a settler. The Matcham Estate was a grant of 2,560 acres to Charles Matcham of the Murrumbidgee River who was promised the land as a primary grant and authorised to take possession from 18 October 1831.
He remained at "Bogolong" Murrumbidgee where he died on 11 March 1844. As reported in the 1844 Sept. Edition of The Gentleman's Magazine he died at Bookham, near Yap (error shoud be Yass), NSW. [2] as well as [3] & [4]
