John Hay was born in 1645 in Scotland, son of John Hay (~1625 - 1697) and Lady Jean (Scott) Hay (1628 - 1688).
His siblings were:
John (~21) married Mary Maitland (~21) (~1645 - 1702) on 11 Dec 1666 in Highgate, London, Middlesex. Their children were:
John died on 20 Apr 1713 in Yester Castle, Yester, Haddingtonshire, Scotland aged ~67.
John Hay was his parents' first son and heir and was styled Lord Hay of Yester 1653-97. He became by inheritance the 3rd Earl and 2nd Marquess of Tweeddale. He held numerous commissions and appointments and was a Privy Councillor to King William in Scotland, and also to Queen Anne. A supporter of the Union he w as a Representative Peer in London 1707-8 being one of the 16 first elected. He was married in the Royal Presence. He was buried at Yester. There is a Funeral entry in the Lyon Office. His Testament was proved in Edinburgh 12th August 1713.[1]
