John was born probably in Woodsome Hall, Almondbury, Yorkshire, England, and baptised 15 Aug. 1616 at Almondbury the only son and heir of Sir John Kaye of Woodsome Hall and Anne daughter of Sir John Ferne. [1]
He succeeded his father 9 March 1640/1 and was Knighted 24 May 1641, at Whitehall. [1]
4 Feb. 1641/2 he was created 1st Baronet Kaye, of Woodesham. [1][2]
Colonel of a Regiment of Horse in the King's Service, and was a compounder 18 Feb.1644/5, being fined £500. [1]
27 April 1637 John Kaye married firstly Margaret, daughter and coheir of Thomas Moseley, of Northcroft, sometime Mayor of York, by Elizabeth, daughter and coheir of Thomas Trigott, of South Kirkby, Yorkshire at Kirkby Wharf, [1]
They had Children
Before 1649 John Kaye married secondly, Elizabeth, widow of Thomas Burdett of Birthwaite, Yorkshire, daughter and heir of Sir Ferdinando Leigh, of Middleton, near Leeds by whom he had nine children, all of whom d. s.p.), She was buried 9 Sep. 1658 at Almondbury. [1]
They had Children
12 Feb. 1660 John Kaye married thirdly Catharine, widow of Michael Wentworth, of Woolley, Yorkshire, daughter of Sir William St. Quentin, 1st Bart. [1642], by Mary, daughter and coheir of John Lacy, at Almondbury, Yorkshire, By her he had no issue. [1]
He died 25 July 1662 and was buried the following day Almondbury, Yorkshire, England [1]
His widow married Henry Sandys, of Down, Kent. She subsequently m. (for her 4th husband and his 2d wife), Alexander (Montgomerie), 8th Earl of Eglintoun [S.], who died. 1701. She was bur., with her 3d husband, 6 Aug. 1700, at Down aforesaid. Admon. 4 Feb. 1700/1 [1]
