Hermann Enke was born in Altenburg, the capital of the small duchy of Sachsen-Altenburg (later a part of Germany) in 1842.[1] He was baptized on 1 May 1842 at the Evangelische Kirche Gieba (AG. Altenburg) in Gödern, Sachsen-Altenburg, Thüringen, Deutschland. His parents were Gottfried Enke and Ernestine.[2]
In 1852, the family immigrated to the state of Missouri, in the United States.
Military

During the American Civil War, Hermann enlisted in the 5th Regiment Missouri Cavalry. The 5th Regiment was organized by consolidation of Benton Hussars and 3 Companies of Hollan Horse on 14 February 1862. Hermann enlisted on 1 January 1862 as a private.
Hermann applied for a invalid's pension from his military service. After his death in 1891, his widow Christina applied and received a widow's pension.
Marriage
After the war, Hermann married Christiana Hosfeld in 1866 in Missouri. They had the following children:

The provided baptism record is probably not belonging to him. The date doesn't match the date on the grave stone, and it makes no sence to baptize a child born in Altenburg in a smal village far outside the city. More research might be needed. Gutknecht-98 20:25, 4 July 2023 (UTC)
