Biography

Clara Hurd Nydam is a career consultant with more than 30 years experience coaching individuals managing challenges on the job and guiding them through transitions to explore career options and develop effective job transition tools and strategies.

Clara is the first of seven children born to Lois (Chamberlain) and Calvin Hurd. She live until age 10 on the farm near Hamill, SD, homesteaded in 1909 by her grandparents, Thomas and Christine (Duus) Hurd. At age 10, the family moved to Winner, SD, where she completed high school in 1965. She attended the University of South Dakota - Vermillion where she graduated with a degree in History Education.

Clara taught Junior high Core (History and English) in the St. Paul (MN) public schools for three years. Then she volunteered with The Navigators ministry on the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus until 1975. In 1975, she became the Administrative Assistant at Minnetonka Baptist Church, and entered Bethel Theological Seminary in 1978. While she attended Bethel Seminary, she served as Minister of Christian Education at Brooklyn Center Baptist Church. After graduating Bethel with an M.Div degree, Clara accepted a call to Faith Covenant Church in Farmington Hills, MI.

In 1985, Clara returned to the Twin Cities, met her husband, Don Nydam, married and began working with the Employment Action Center as a career consultant in 1986. In 1989 she established a private career consulting practice in collaboration with a Twin Cities CPA firm. The family relocated to the Madison WI area in 1991, and Clara worked as a recruiter, as an outplacement consultant, and with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship until 1994, when she established Career Momentum, Inc. in Madison, WI.

Clara led Career Momentum to become the premier independent provider of outplacement services in South Central Wisconsin. In 2004, Career Partners International (CPI) invited Clara to make Career Momentum an equity owner in the partnership. In 2013, Clara began the process of transitioning Career Momentum, Inc, to new ownership. She relocated with her husband to the Twin Cities when the transition was completed at the end of 2015.

Clara continues to provide private career services in the Twin Cities. She is also volunteering at her church as a facilitator of the "This Time Tomorrow" ministry. She enjoys spending time with her grandchildren and extended families in the Midwest and New York state. She is also devoted to researching her family tree.
