Ezekiel (Bogert) Bogart is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A132242.

Ezekiel was born about 1750. He was the son of Gysbert Bogart and Elizabeth Parker. He passed away after 1807. His name came to him in the Dutch tradition of 'handing down names'[1]from his deceased brother Ezekiel Bogard born 1738 at Deerpark, Orange, New York. [2]The early Ezekiel Bogart was the son of Gysbert Bogard and his first wife, Catrina Dekker. This second Ezekiel is the son of Gysbert Bogart and his second wife, Elizabeth Parker-Petty.[3] Like his older brother Cornelius, born to Elizabeth Petty and Gysbert Bogart, he was active in Hampshire, Virginia politics and migrated to Ohio after 1800, where he died. He was also father to four sons and three daughters:

  • Joshua,
  • Joseph,
  • James,
  • George,
  • Jemima Bogard Welton wife of Job Welton,
  • Elizabeth, minor in 1807
  • Keziah, minor in 1807 sent to live with her cousin, Jemima Cunningham, to be educated

Executors of will~Joshua Bogart and Micheal Fisher[4]

He is listed in Virginia's Colonial soldiers as a Ranger[5] and contributed to the Revolutionary War by donating 210 lbs of flour and a cask.[6] Ezekiel Bogard is also listed as an Ensign in the pension application of Joseph George who stated that he was marched from Hampshire Co VA to Winchester in Capt. James Cunningham's Co. under Ensign Ezekiel Bogard.[7]

Note: His wife may have been a Cunningham. Ezekial specified in his will of 1807 that his daughter Keziah was to live with her cousin, Jemima Cunningham. Ezekiel was also the assignee of Robert Cunningham in Hardy County, Virginia in 1789. See Virginia Northern Neck Land Grants, 1775-1800, Volume 3 By Gertrude E. Gray, Dave Gray[8]

Bogaert-274 and Bogert-296 appear to represent the same person because: Ezekiel Bogaert and Ezekiel Bogart appear to represent the same person because both deaths are in Franklin Co., Ohio at the same time and both have daughter Jemima Bogaert that married a Welton
