Jesse was born December 25, 1790 in Greene County, Tennessee.

He married Sarah Miller in 1808 Together they had 6 children:

  1. Maclin Kerr
  2. David Kerr
  3. William Kerr
  4. General Kerr
  5. Jesse Kerr

Jesse served as a private in Chiles' Battalion, Mounted Gunmen, East Tennessee Volunteers during the War of 1812.[1]

Jesse procured a license to marry Phoebe A. Hayes on 7 February 1859 in Blount County, Tennessee. The marriage was solemnized on 15 February 1859 by James M. Tullock, Jr., Justice of the Peace of Blount County.[2]

Jesse passed away October 28, 1872 in Blount County, Tennessee. He was buried in October,1872 at the Kerr Family Cemetery in Greenback, Loudon County, Tennessee.[3]

Research Notes

On some Ancestry trees, Jesse's parents are given as Robert Kerr of Mecklenburg County, Virginia, and Martha Hayes. While this is not yet confirmed, it should be noted that Jesse's second wife was a Hays.

Would you please click on the FAG in Sources to compare Jesse's children. Comparing the 5 children born with Sarah, only one agrees with who is listed in this Profile and he had no children with Phebe.

Please let me know what your thoughts are in this matter.
