Celeste Ausea Thibodeaux, the daughter of Leonard Thibodeau and Magdeline Odalie Cormier, wed Portalis Courville on 2 January 1877 in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana.^[1]

Research Notes

Suggested edit: I've been going through her father's succession record at ancestry.com (St Martin Parish No. 1580 filed 11 Dec 1857) which lists the following children in one of the early petitions: Felicia Thibodeau, Placide Thibodeau, Emelia Thibodeau, Emma Thibodeau, Ernest Thibodeau, and Mathilde Thibodeau. A petition of 15 Dec 1857 indicates her mother was pregnant at the time of Leonard Thibodeaux's death. A curator is appointed for the unborn child. Ozea is first mentioned in the list of children in a 1 Dec 1858 petition of her mother-- thus Ozea was born in 1858. Oddly, I do find the following record which perhaps misstates her baptism date for her birth date since Leonard Thibodeaux died 8 Nov 1857 he couldn't be the father otherwise: THIBODEAUX, Ulodie (Leonard & Magdeline CORMIER) b. 17 Dec. 1858 (BB Ch.: v. 1, p. 50) Contributor: Donna Storz (47773759)

In various early (Dec 1857) petitions Ordalie indicates there are 6 children and on 15 Dec 1857 she takes oath as natural tutrix of the following children: Felicia Thibodeau, Placide Thibodeau, Emelia Thibodeau, Emma Thibodeau, Ernest Thibodeau, and Mathilde Thibodeau That same date she petitions informing the judge that she was pregnant and the child has yet to be born and she asks a curator to be named for her unborn child.

In a petition dated 1 Dec 1858 she NOW adds a seventh name to the list of children: Felicia, Placide, Emilia, Emma, Ernest, Mathilde and Ozea. Clearly, Ozea is the child born after Leonard's death which would make her born in 1858. I guess it's possible she was born sometime between 15 Dec 1857 and 31 Dec 1857, but it's doubtful if she was that close to birth she would have bothered with petitioning for a curator for her unborn child.
