Sir Thomas de Lumley[1] (b. 29 Sep 1408 DUR - d.1485) is the grandson of Ralph, 1st Baron Lumley, who was restored to the Lumley estates in 1421. He is the first baron of the second creation, but the second in sequence. "Known as a brave and dashing soldier," he had a prominent role in Wars of the Roses.[2]

↑ knighted ante. 2 Ed IV; Sheriff of NBL; by 20 Ed IV Lord Lumley (Collins, 1768)
↑ Thomas was involved in the successful siege of Bamburgh Castle and accompanied Edward IV into battle to oppose the late Queen Margaret's forces.
↑ "in 1432, Bishop Nevill granted to Sir Thomas Lumley and Margaret his wife everything cast ashore by the tide in their demesnes in Stranton and Seaton Carrowe, in the royal liberty of Durham."
This Profile of Thomas Lumley, who is stated in his profile as being the 2nd Baron Lumley should not have "1st Baron Lumley" as well in the Nicknames section. Also:
To confuse this even further, in the Dict. National Biography Vol 35 page 271, it states that Thomas (this Profile) was made Governor of Scarborough Castle for life and that he was the 3rd Baron Lumley rather than the 2nd Baron Lumley.
He was made 1st Earl of Scarborough from 1454 (1st Creation)
I do not have pre-1500 clearance, so perhaps someone who has, would be kind enough to look into this and edit this.
Linda Thanks
Thomas and his wife Margaret could not be the parents of daughter, Joan, based on posted birth years. A birth year of 1417 for Joan means her father was 9 and her mother was 7.
