Charles Weld was born in Swansea, Glamorgan, Wales.

According to his biography Charles Richard Weld was born in Windsor in 1813. He was the son of Isaac Weld and his second wife Lucy Powell of Kildare Ireland. He was baptised in the Presbyterian church Swansea Wales [1][2] In 1820 he accompanied his parents to France, where they occupied a château near Dijon. After his father's death he attended classes at Trinity College, Dublin, but took no degree.


In 1841 Charles Weld was a Barrister at Middle Temple Middlesex.[3] He then became assistant secretary and librarian to the Royal Society. Peter Mark Roget was the senior secretariat the time.

“Weld was the main assistant of Sir John Franklin in the organisation of his Arctic explorations, and was an authority on polar matters connected with the polar circle. He issued in 1850 a lecture on Arctic Expeditions, originally delivered at the London Institution on 6 February 1850, and this was followed by pamphlets on the search for Franklin during 1851.”[4]

Charles, an Esquire, late of Somerset House, Middlesex, England, United Kingdom and now resided at Belle Vue House, Newbridge Hill, Bath, Somerset, England passed away suddenly, aged fifty five on 15 January 1869.
His passing was registered[5][6][7]during the first quarter of 1869 in the district of Bath.
His probate[8][9]was proved at the Principal Registry on 12 February 1869 and resworn in June 1870 detailing effects of under £6,000 0s 0d and under £7,000 0s 0d respectively to his widow Anne Weld.
