Biography

Anna Barnes was born about 1767 to Jesse and Elizabeth Barnes in Groton, Connecticut.[1]

Anna married Dewey Bromley (or Brumley) of Norwich,[2] son of Christopher and Margery (Davison) Bromley,[3] on 28 October 1784 in Preston.[4]

Children of Dewey and Anna (Barnes) Bromley:[5][6]

  • Avery Bromley, b. 8 November 1785, d. 1 May 1787
  • Dewey Bromley, b. 17 April 1787[4]
  • Avery Bromley, b. 23 November 1788
  • Isaac Bromley, b. 10 December 1790
  • Erastus Bromley, b. 8 November 1792
  • William Bromley Bromley, b. 15 April 1795, d. 15 October 1812
  • Nancy Bromley, b. 16 March 1798
  • Reuben Leeds Bromley, b. 9 March 1800
  • James Billings Bromley, b. 11 July 1803

Dewey's will, dated 12 August 1807 left certain legacies to wife Anne and sons Dewey and Avery, and instructions that the rest of his estate, real and personal, be equally divided between all his children, naming Anne and son Dewey as executors.[5] He died 18 August 1807,[7] and the will was proved 24 August 1807.[5]

Anna married, second, James Rogers,[1] son of Samuel and Zilpha (Hyde) Rogers[8] and a widower with seven surviving children of his own, some time after 11 March 1814.[9] James died 28 September 1820.[10]

Anna married, third, Joshua Maples (Sr.) of Bozrah, a widower and son of John and Sarah (Baker) Maples,[11] at her son Dewey Bromley's on 11 June 1828 in Norwich.[12] Joshua died 25 February 1838.[13]

Anna died 15 May 1849, age 82, probably in Bozrah, and her remains were interred with her first husband, Dewey, in Norwich.[7]
