Robert Donald "Bob" Ward was born on August 24th, 1930 in Auburn, New York. He was the oldest of 3 children born to Kenneth Edwin Ward, who was 22 & Mildred Louise Defendorf, who was 20. He passed away on May 31st, 2009 at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, New York. He was 78

During the Korean War, he was present on the Essex-Class aircraft carrier, the USS Boxer when a fire broke out on the hangar deck on August 5th, 1952. It had only been a few days since it left port from Yokosuka, Japan. Casualties totaled up to 8 dead, 1 missing, 1 critically injured, 1 seriously burned, and about 70 overcome by smoke. 18 aircraft were also damaged or destroyed.

On February 1st, 1956, he married Patricia Joyce Stewart in San Diego, California. They were also 2nd cousins once removed, both of them being descendants of William Ward & Mary Ann Blackwell. However, family members have said that they did not know this until after they had started a family.

Robert & Patricia had a total of 6 children together. Although their 2nd born child Raymond, died at about 6 months old.
