3 Benjamin Bunnell A. Biographical notes:

Born 10 November/11 October 1742 near Kingwood, Hunterdon County, New Jersey. Died at home in “the Hollow,” Middle Smithfield Township, Monroe County, Pennsylvania on 14/24 March 1814, age 71; interred in the Coolbaugh Presbyterian Church graveyard in Middle Smithfield. At about age 11 moved with his parents to “The Hollow,” Middle Smithfield Township, Monroe County, Pennsylvania. Benjamin was a Veteran of the Revolutionary War. He bought Catherine Barry (as an indentured servant) for his mother. After Catherine completed the terms of her indenture, she was asked if she wanted to marry Benjamin or take her pay out in linen fiber and flax. Catherine chose the latter. However, she eventually married Benjamin anyway. In their early years they resided near Kingwood, New Jersey and, later, at Stroudsburg, Monroe County, Pennsylvania. B. Wife: Catherine Barry 1. Catherine’s birth: 26 November 1759. Catherine’s death: 5/25 September 1843 (age 83 yrs, 9 months, 9 days) at Washington Township, Wyoming County, Pennsylvania; interred there in the Bunnell Cemetery at Vosburgh on “The Neck.” 2. Catherine’s parents: James and Esther “Hester” (Bryant) Barry of Bucks County, Pennsylvania. (unknown relation to Courtney Smith Bryant) 3. Other biographical notes on Catherine: Born 26 November 1759 in Northampton (now Monroe) County, Pennsylvania. Married Benjamin Bunnell there in Middle Smithfield Township in 1777/78. C. Children: 1. Mary “Polly” Bunnell: Born 5 August 1779. Died 24 January 1838. Married John Jayne in 1817 and had the following children: a. Benjamin Jayne. b. David Jayne. c. Aaron Jayne.
