A systems engineer in the later part of his life, "J" retired to Florida and is taking some time to tap the knowledge of those who are still around to document his father's ancestry.
I am limiting the information I put on here about myself and other living relatives while I prove the concept of how well this tool documents my father's ancestry. If successful, I will integrate this info with what my uncle on my mother's side documented for her ancestry. My uncle was an engineer also and was somewhat meticulous on documenting properly. Unfortunately he is no longer with us and the information he had is on an old computer and was once uploaded to rootsweb.
So one "project" I have is "SCRIBNER". My Dad (surname Daum) was adopted but knew his real mom and dad (Scribner) as aunt and uncle until age 16 (or so), when he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps. Once upon a time I became keeper of my grandfather's (SCRIBNER) turn of the century (1900) Scott Catalog stamp collection. At that time, the uncle on my mother's side was documenting his ancestry. I became interested in knowing the Scribner connections but failed to get much info beyond my grandfather's obituary.
Recently, online resources opened up my grandfather's ancestry. E.g., discovered my great granduncle was well known in burlesque and has a wikipedia page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_A._Scribner (which has some incorrect information in it). Sam A. Scribner's half-brother is my great-grandfather, Dr. John King Scribner. They are burried in the same section in Brookville, PA.
I am having difficulty connecting to my great-great-grandmother as her spouse (Alexender St. John [James] Scribner b.1832-06-03 was married at least 2 times. My great-grandfather's marriage certificate shows his parents were "Alex and Kate Scribner". I am having difficulty locating information on the right "Kate" Scribner.
Regarding Sam A. Scribner, for some reason I have become fascinated with him and have discovered a not well-documented first marriage for him that produced one daughter (at least). A story of that first marriage and daughter was a significant one in Buffalo, NY and Bradford, McKean County, PA, around the time of that first spouse's death in 1897.
Anyway, I have read a bunch and will use that information (some of it with a grain of salt--like the rosy picture painted by the Buffalo paper), guided by you all, to properly document Sam and other relatives for which I have information.
I will also re-edit/delete my biography and place this information wherever and whichever relative it belongs to, with proper references as described on this registration page.
I would also appreciate help using the right terms/notation as I take steps to document this information online.
Thanks, John Daum aka "J Daum"
