Biography

Private John Kent served with 2nd Connecticut Regiment (1781), Continental Army during the American Revolution.

John was born in 1744. He was the son of Dudley Kent and Ruth Ruggles. ^[1]

He married Grace Root in 1771. They had the following children:

1. Annie Kent b. 1773
2. John Kent b. 1774
3. Joel Kent 1776–1805
4. Silas Kent 1778–1813
5. Jerusha Kent 1780–1854
6. Ezekiel Kent 1789–1861

He fought in the American Revolution with the 5th Company, 2nd Connecticut Regiment under command of Colonel Swift and Captain Elijah Chapman.^[2][3]

He married Sarah Smith about 1785. They had the following children:

1. Sarah Evalina (Austin) 1786–1869
2. Germanicus 1791 - 1862
3. Rev. Aratus 1794-1869
4. Cecilia (Leavitt) 1798-1892

They lived in Suffield, Connecticut. ^[4][5][6][7]

John passed away in 1827. ^[8][9]

As can be seen in The Barbour Collection, multiple birth dates have been reported. The birth date has been changed to the only reported birth date that does not conflict with the birth date of his older sister Lucy.
