Biography

George W. Fentress was born between Aug 1851 and sometime in 1854 (see research notes). Mother was Cyntha L. Fentress Jr. but father is unknown.
George married M W Fort (called "Mollie") on 28 Oct 1880^[1] but the wife died 6 months later. As far as can be determined from the sources^{[2][3][4][5][6]}, George lived with and later cared for his mother Cyntha in Robertson County (near Coopertown) all his life until Cyntha died in 1913.
George died in 1920^[7] and is buried in Coopertown Cemetery, Springfield, Robertson County, Tennessee, USA^[7].

Research notes

• Sources conflict on year of birth. FindAGrave^[7] has a picture of the gravestone which shows 1851 as the birth date (possibly Aug 1851). The gravestone may not be as accurate as in the normal case as there was no immediate family left in Robertson County to bury George. The 1900 census^[4] gives May 1846 as the birth date. The 1880 census^[3], 1910 census^[5] and 1920 census^[6] all give birth date as ~1854. The 1870 census^[2] gives the birth date as ~1852. I have chosen an uncertain 1854 as this is the most frequently mentioned year.
• We do not know who the father of George was.
• Can find no certificate of birth nor certificate of death.
