Obituary: "News has been received in London of the death at Ibamhi, Belgian Congo of Mr Charles Thomas Studd, a member of a famous cricketing family who gave up what promised to be a brilliant career at the Bar to become a missionary. His 2 brothers Mr George Studd and Mr JEK Studd-now Sir Kynaston Studd, formerly Lord Mayor of London-were equally well known in the cricketing world and each of the 3 brothers captained Cambridge university and afterwards played for Middlesex. Mr Studd had been seriously ill for 2 years, but he bravely carried on his work. He and his brother George were in the English team which brought the "ashes of English cricket" back from Australia for the first time. When Moody and Sankey the evangelists visited this country "CT" was so greatly influenced by their revival campaign that he decided to abandon his legal studies and devote his life to the mission field. In 1886 when 25 "CT" inherited a fortune of 30000 pounds which he at once devoted to his mission. Mr Studd was 73." Western Daily Press, 27 Jul 1931
