German inventor and tinkerer best known for inventing the plastic expanding wall plug. He applied for over 5000 IP rights and possessed over 1100 patents, more than Thomas Alva Edison.[1][2]

Artur Fischer was born 31 Dec 1919 in Tumlingen, now part of Waldachtal, Baden-Württemberg, Germany to the village tailor Georg Fischer and Pauline Fischer who ironed collars for a living. His mother bought him an construction set, the equivalent of an Erector set, hoping to utilize his natural mechanical skills.[4] After World War II, in 1947, he patented his first invention, syncronized flash photography and sold it to Agfa. The next year, in 1948, he founded the Fischer Group and developed such brands like Fischertechnik and the first plastic expanding wall plugs (from polyamide). He married Rita Gonser (1925-2013) and they had two children.[2]
He passed away on 27 Jan 2016 at the age of 97 in his hometown of Tumlingen.[2] He was buried in Friedhof Tumlingen next to Rita.[5]
