New Brunswick Courier newspaper
m. St. Marys, York Co., by Rev. Mountain, Lt. C.R. HATHEWAY of H.M. late N.B. Regt. / Abigail Julia d/o Capt. P. CLEMENTS of H.M. late Kings American Regt.
(Reproduced as printed)

Charles was a longstanding and high ranking officer with the New Brunswick Regiment of Fencible Infantry, a unit which saw action in the War of 1812 particularly the Battle of Sackets Harbour]. The 104th was well known for it's trek from Fredericton, New Brunswick to Kingston, Ontario, a march that took 34 days over a 3 month period. The concept of a New Brunswick regiment defending Upper Canada from invaders foreshadowed Canadian confederation decades later, as it united the separate provinces of British North America together against a common enemy. [5] [6] </blockquote>

He was a long serving Justice of the peace in Charlotte County, officiating marriages recorded as early as 1826. [7] [8] He appears to have lived at Saint Andrews most of his adult life.

On July 21, 1869, Charles, age 80 years, passed away at home at Saint Andrews Township, Charlotte County, New Brunswick, Canada. The following day, his wife, Julia, age 77 years, passed away, also at home. At the time of his passing, he was the senior justice of Charlotte County. [3] [4]
