Herbert Hamilton Oakes was born on July 17, 1859 in Balmain, Colony of New South Wales, son of Rowland Hassall Oakes (1821–1888) and Fanny Harding Mansfield (1829–1875).[1]
Herbert (27) married Edith Agnes Bligh (33) (born on March 11, 1853 in Warialda, New South Wales; daughter of Richard John Bligh and Maria Isabella (Fennell) Bligh) on October 16, 1886 in Sydney, New South Wales. Their daughter was Esmee Gertrude Bligh Oakes (1887–1936).
Herbert died on May 5, 1906 in Homebush, New South Wales, Australia, aged 46.[2]
