Biography

Mary Kathryn Oakley (Kathryn as she was known to everyone) was born 21 August 1923 in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee. She was 5th of 11 children. She married Claude Matlock 4 December 1938. They moved to "Blue Creek" Tennessee, where Claude's family was from. Kathryn and Claude had one child, Janie. Claude died in a drowning accident when Janie was just over 4 years old. After Claude's death, Kathryn and Janie moved back to Kathryn's family home, where there were still many of her younger siblings living at home.

When she was 22, she married Leonard Simmons, son of John Henry Simmons and Merley Sally Story, about 1946. When she was 66, she married Houston Mack Daniel, son of Herman Clepous Daniel and Mattie Elise Cothran, about 1990.
