Lucian Edward Matlock (known as Lush pronounced Loosh) was born on 17 Jan 1882 in Humphreys, Tennessee, United States, son of Benjamin Nailor Luffman (1844 - 1923) and Elizabeth Matlock (1862 - >1940) (known as both Willie and LIzzie). Elizabeth was not married when Lush was born, and thus his last name given was Matlock. To our knowledge, Elizabeth never named the father.

DNA evidence has strongly suggested that Lucian's father was probably a Choate. Most likely Isom Lucian Choate. It's also possible that his brother James Matlock was also the son of "Lucian" Choate.
